FRUIT ICE   FOR DOGS, HORSES AND MAYBE CATS

Ingredients:

fruit

water

kool aid/tang/gatorade

rope/string

container(small cottage cheese, bundt pan, ice cube tray, bucket)

Directions:

Fill the container half way with water, then add

fruit and flavoring. Freeze overnight. Then add more fruit, flavoring and water. Put end of rope or string in the second half of water so it extends out of container(this is to hang it; treats can also be fed on the ground without rope). Put in freezer until completely frozen(time varies based on size of container).

Additional comments:

Some fruits sink and some float, so when adding the fruit, put the ones that float in the first half and the ones that sink in the second half to try and keep the treats to the middle of the ice. This way it will take more time to consume. A Bungee Cord can also be used to hang the treat.

Servings:

Consider the size of the animal you're feeding this treat to, try and make a size that can be eaten before it completely melts.

Most Zoos use food frozen in ice for their animals enrichment.

ASDM's Bears get Bear "Cicles" everyday and they can contain up to 2# of food.

Different types of Bears go about eating cicles in many ways. polar Bears tend to crush, Black Bears.....

Ours at the Museum like to pick them apart with their nails until they get to the treat they want.

Our male bear eats up to 10# of fruit, vegies, meat and nuts in one summer day.

long the same lines as fruit ice. This is a great treat for carnivores.

Our otter loves getting his "Cicle", although we don't like to leave any pieces parts hanging out because it makes it too easy for him to bring on shore. We like to challenge him a bit.
