This phone is staffed by volunteers 24/7 including holidays. If you get a message please leave detailed information and repeat your phone number so that we can return the call. If you do not receive a response in a timely manner (more than 1/2 hour) please call back. We try to respond to all calls within 1/2 hour however we sometimes have a high volume of calls and it may take a little longer. If you have an injured or orphaned animal in your possession please be sure it is secured in pet carrier or cardboard box in a quiet, dark room and do not offer food or water. Keep babies & injured animals warm. You can use a heating pad set on low, & placed underneath 1/2 of the cardboard box or carrier. Be careful not to overheat. Do not handle any animal with bare hands and do not attempt to capture an animal unless you are sure it is safe to do so. Calls to this number are billed as a Lake George exchange. The hotline volunteers will assist you in determining first if the animal does need help and then where to take the animal. All of our rehabilitators are volunteers who work out of their homes. Most have full time jobs as well. We ask that you transport the animal to us if at all possible. North Country Wild Care has member rehabilitators in Warren, Washington, Saratoga, Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, and Fulton Counties. We will do our best to find prompt assistance for you.
